“And Then There Were Nuns” guest stars Dianne Wiest, marking a full-circle moment for showrunnerJonathan Tolins, who worked on a theater production of Uncle Vanya with Wiest 41 years ago. That experience inspired him to become a playwright, changing the course of his career.
Tolins told TV Insider that Judge Crawford’s (Michael Emerson) widow, Winnie (Henny Russell), will return in the second half of Season 3.
“Winnie is also involved in politics, and we’re heading toward an election, so there may be some crossover between those two plots,” Tolins said.
Alec’s campaign is run by Marissa Gold (Sarah Steele) from The Good Fight. She clocked Alec and Elsbeth’s chemistry early on this season and staged a PR-stunt relationship between them without their knowledge. They’ve been rolling with it, and they are smitten with each other. But there are truths to be unveiled about Alec in the future.
“He’s so appealing and attractive. And there are things, though, that aren’t quite adding up,” Tolins said of Alec. “We’re looking at ideas about truth, and can you be honest in every aspect of your life all the time? What does it mean? What do we expect of each other? And also, what does it mean for public life? Do we hold people to impossible standards? All that stuff is getting mixed up with Elsbeth’s romance.”
“Teddy’s job and his protectiveness of his mother both will be tested by what’s to come,” Tolins added.
Carra Patterson will also be coming back as Kaya (now a recurring guest-star role), as, of course, will Wendell Pierce as Captain Wagner.
