What has been said about Task Season 2?
HBO
Task is among HBO’s top three fastest-growing debut seasons, making it a major success. HBO’s Programming EVP and Head of HBO Drama Series and Films, Francesca Orsi, shared in a statement, “We knew well in advance of its launch that we had a powerful drama series on our hands, but it has been so rewarding to witness the audience’s fervor and embrace of this show as it grew week after week. Rarely does a writer balance humanistic storytelling with intricate, explosive plotting, but Brad Ingelsby is one of our industry’s greats, and we have no doubt he will strike as profoundly and addictively once again in Season 2.”
Ingelsby, who also helmed HBO’s other hit series Mare of Easttown, said, “We’ve been incredibly fortunate to have HBO’s unwavering support of Task from the very first script onwards, throughout production, and during their extraordinary launch of our first season to audiences. They are an unmatched creative home. On behalf of the entire Task team, in front of and behind the camera, I am honored and excited to get back to work on a second season of our show.”
On March 23, 2026, Deadline announced that Mahershala Ali will play Eddie Barnes, a well-respected DEA agent in Philadelphia whose team comes into conflict with Ruffalo’s unit. Since then, Deadline has also uncovered three additional roles as Harry Melling, Adam Nagaitis, and Aminah Nieves join the show.
Melling is set to play Brennan Boylan, a “powder-keg” DEA agent, and Nagaitis is also portraying a DEA agent named Luke Clemmons. Meanwhile, Nieves has signed on to play Nataly Zamora, an FBI agent and dedicated young mother attempting to protect her community.
No logline or synopsis for Season 2 of Task has been shared at this time, but as fans saw in Season 1, the story revolved around the working-class suburbs of Philadelphia, where FBI agent Tom headed a Task Force to put an end to a string of robberies committed by family man Robbie Prendergast (Pelphrey).
Season 1 concluded with Tom helping to uproot corruption within the Task Force and helping free Robbie’s family from the clutches of a vindictive biker gang. Where Season 2 will take viewers remains to be seen, but keep an eye out for more details in the months ahead.
