Pippa “Pip” Fitz-Amobi (Emma Myers) isn’t like other teens. After all, most high school students don’t develop an obsession with unsolved local murders just to earn a little extra school credit. But for Pip in A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, digging into the truth is more than an academic exercise; it’s a chance to uncover the dark secrets festering beneath the surface of her seemingly quiet town.
Now she is back as the events of Season 2 drop fans off right after the events of Season 1, but for those who have visited with Pip and her buddies in a bit, they might need a refresher.
Here is a look at everything that happened to Pip, her friends, and the murder that started it all.
What was A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder Season 1 about?
The season takes place five years after popular Andie Bell (India Lillie Davies) is murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh (Rahul Pattni), who then supposedly dies by suicide. Knowing Sal as a kind boy who has helped her when she is bullied, Pip decides to investigate the “closed” case for her senior capstone project, convinced of the teen’s innocence. She teams with Sal’s brother Ravi (Zain Iqbal), and the duo uncovers a web of sordid secrets in their small town of Little Kilton.
So who really killed Andie?
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Season 1 of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. Pip uncovers that Andie was killed by her sister, Becca, after a confrontation about Andie selling date rape drugs that were used to assault Becca. During the fight, Becca pushes Andie, causing the already-injured girl — she was previously assaulted by her teacher/lover Mr. Elliot Ward (Mathew Baynton) — to fall and choke on her own vomit. Becca then leaves her to die and hides the body in a septic tank.
Pip is also nearly killed by Becca after being drugged, but Ravi and Cara (Asha Banks) save her using a tracking app.
And what happened to Sal?
Sal has been murdered by his and Pip’s English teacher, Mr. Ward. Mr. Ward has been having an affair with Andie, and to direct suspicion away from himself and his illicit relationship with his student, Elliot drugs Sal, smothers him, and stages the scene to make it look like Sal has died by suicide out of guilt.
Little Kilton’s resident spoiled, rich boy is far more dangerous than he appears. Max Hastings (Henry Ashton) repeatedly assaults women by drugging them, and his attack on Becca is what sets the entire debacle in motion. It is Andie who supplies Max with the drugs he used to assault Becca. Later, during a heated fight between the sisters, Becca shoves Andie — who has already suffered a serious head injury — into a wall. Becca then watches in horror as Andie collapses to the floor and ultimately chokes to death on her own vomit.
Who was blackmailing Naomi and Max?
Elliot blackmails his older daughter, Naomi (Yasmin Al-Khudhairi), and Max into lying about Sal’s alibi after discovering they covered up a New Year’s Eve hit-and-run. But it should be noted that Max has also been blackmailing Officer Dan Da Silva (Jackson Bews) over his past relationship with underage Andie, forcing him to help hide the crash.
Wait. Isn’t Pip’s best friend Mr. Ward’s daughter?
Yes. And in the end, Cara tracks Pip through the Find My Friends app and rushes into the woods with Ravi just in time to save her. Pip has been drugged by Becca Bell and dragged into a cave to die, but Cara and Ravi arrive in time and call the police, leading to Becca’s arrest. Cara also helps uncover the truth about Andie’s death, proving her father was not completely at fault and exposing Becca’s role in the fatal fight. But it is still her father, so there might be some fallout next season.
So, in a nutshell…
The season ends with Pip completing her project, earning school credit, Mr. Ward is arrested, Becca is arrested, and Max is arrested, and Pip kisses Ravi.
