High Potential has been a big hit for ABC, but its fans are frustrated about the second season’s stop/start schedule.
The crime series, which stars Kaitlin Olson as Morgan Gillory, an intellectually gifted cleaning woman who becomes a police consultant, premiered its second season on September 16, 2025, and is set to air its finale on Tuesday, April 7. This is much earlier than other ABC favorites, such as Grey’s Anatomy, 9-1-1, and Will Trent, which don’t finish until May.
“Why is the finale SO early in the spring? Shouldn’t it be in May? I hate that we’ll have to wait for October for more episodes!” wrote one fan on the High Potential Reddit subforum.
“Yeah … everything about the way they mapped out 18 episodes against a full season feels like it was designed to ensure NO ONE was happy!” another said.
“Feels so early compared to other shows,” another added.
Another wrote, “I thought it was odd they aired the Mother’s Day episode in March, when Mother’s Day is around May 15th – about 6 weeks ahead. Wonder if they expected more breaks?”
Season 2 has faced several interruptions, despite having its episode count increased to 18 from the first season’s 13. The show had its mid-season break from November to January, but only returned for five episodes before taking another hiatus in early February.
Throughout February, ABC instead aired reruns of Will Trent in the 9 pm and 10 pm timeslots, per The U.S. Sun. ABC didn’t officially give a reason for the break, though many viewers speculated it was to avoid a clash with NBC’s Winter Olympics coverage.
However, despite the Winter Olympics finishing on February 22, High Potential didn’t return the following week because ABC aired President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address. Instead, it resumed new episodes on March 3.
One viewer didn’t mind the earlier-than-expected finale, explaining, “I’d rather it end now than have unnecessary breaks of weeks at a time throughout the season to have the season end in May.”
Last month, ABC confirmed High Potential had been renewed for a third season, posting on the show’s Instagram page, “The case isn’t closed 
#HighPotential has been renewed for Season 3! Who’s excited?”
High Potential‘s Season 2 audience has continued to grow, pulling in 12.98 million total viewers after seven days of viewing on ABC, Hulu, Hulu on Disney+, and other digital platforms. The show also scored a 2.17 rating among adults 18-49.
