Cape Fear is heading to the small screen, giving fans of John D. MacDonald’s original novel a reason to get excited.
Based on MacDonald’s 1957 novel The Executioners, the Apple TV is created and executive produced by Nick Antosca and hails from Academy Award-winning executive producers Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg. The novel previously inspired the original 1962 Universal Pictures film starring Gregory Peck, as well as the 1991 remake directed by Scorsese and starring Robert De Niro and Nick Nolte.

When will Cape Fear premiere?
Cape Fear will make its global debut on Friday, June 5, 2026, with the first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Friday through July 31, 2026, on Apple TV. Ten episodes have been ordered.

Who is in the Cape Fear cast?

Academy Award nominee Amy Adams will play attorney Amanda, whose family is being stalked by a former convict with a grudge. Javier Bardem will join Adams as the unhinged Max Cady, a role previously played by DeNiro and Robert Mitchum. Patrick Wilson is set as Amanda’s attorney husband, Steve Bowden.
The logline reads: “A storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden when Max Cady, a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison.”
The original film and the Scorsese remake follow a recently released convict who believes his former lawyer betrayed him and begins stalking the attorney’s family in a campaign of terror.
Hailing from UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Amblin Television. The series is executive-produced by Spielberg, who produced the 1991 film, alongside Scorsese. Bardem and Adams will also exec produce. Creator Antosca showruns and produces alongside Alex Hedlund for Eat The Cat; and Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey alongside Spielberg for Amblin Television.
Academy Award-nominee Morten Tyldum will direct the pilot and serve as executive producer. The series is developed and produced through Antosca’s overall deal at UCP.
