HOOD RIVER — The Hood River Valley High Eagles boys soccer team got a split of their two Class 5A contests last week.
The No. 9-ranked Eagles (1-1 NWOC, 4-3-2 overall) were seeking to extend their unbeaten streak to five straight in an Oct. 1 Northwest Oregon Conference (NWOC) boys home game against the No. 1-ranked Wilsonville High Wildcats (3-0 NWOC, 7-2 overall).
The Wildcats were seeking revenge after they were eliminated from the state playoffs last year following a 2-1 semifinal loss to the Eagles on Nov. 7, 2023. That’s exactly what the Wildcats did, too, as they won 2-0 over the Eagles at Hood River Valley High School’s Henderson Stadium.
The loss snapped a four-game unbeaten streak for the Eagles, who are in fourth place in the nine-team NWOC standings with six-games left on their schedule.
The Eagles responded to the Wilsonville loss by winning an Oct. 3 nonleague road matchup, 2-0, over the Class 6A Sandy High Pioneers (2-3-2). Seniors Julian Lara and Andro Mendez scored goals, and Gio Macias and Oscar Moline had assists to help lead the Eagles to the victory.
The Eagles will be seeking to get a win in their next game Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. versus the No. 4-ranked and three-time defending league champion La Salle Prep Falcons (3-0 NWOC, 4-4-1 overall) at La Salle High School in Milwaukie.
