THE GORGE — The Dalles High Riverhawks and the Hood River Valley (HRV) High Eagles both competed in OSAA boys golf regional tournaments May 12-13, when HRV qualified three golfers for the 2025 state tourney.
The Eagles enjoyed a tremendous amount of success, as the trio of John Olsen, Aksel Betz and David Shepherd qualified for the Class 5A tournament May 19-20 at OGA Golf Course in Woodburn.
Shepherd, a freshman, shot 77 to take third place individually in the May 12 Northwest Oregon Conference/Intermountain Conference regional event on the 18-hole Indian Creek Golf Course in Hood River. Olsen, a junior, shot 79 for fifth place overall to qualify for state for a third consecutive year. Betz, a freshman, shot 85 to advance to the state tourney.
The Eagles recorded a team score of 334 to take third place in the tournament. The top two teams — Wilsonville (323) and Canby (327) — qualified for state. The tournament marked the final event of the season for Eagle players Davis Kerr, Ren Sandahl and Wyatt Bahn. Kerr, a senior, was a three-time state qualifier.
The Riverhawks’ boys squad competed in the 12-team Class 4A Special District 1 regional May 12-13 at Meadow Lakes Golf Course in Prineville. The Riverhawks finished in eighth place with a 36-hole score of 774.
Senior Leighton Voodre led the Riverhawks with an 80 on Day 1, followed by a Day 2 score of 94. Senior Gabe Hoff shot 90, 103 in the final high school event of his golfing career.
The five-member Riverhawks squad also included Andrew Westin (107, 98), Harley Beaver (97, 105) and Camden Whipple (115, 121).
It was the final tourney for longtime The Dalles Coach Dan Telles, who is retiring from coaching the Riverhawk golfers.
The Dufur High Rangers girls golf team competed in the 21-team OSAA Class 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 6 regional tournament May 12-13 at Quail Ridge Golf Course in Baker City. The Ranger squad was led by top-10 golfer Tygh Timinsky, a junior, who shot 152 to earn medalist honors and qualify for state a third straight year. It was the ninth tourney win out of 11 events for Timinsky this season.
Timinsky, who finished seventh in the 2024 state tourney, was hoping to cap her season with another top-10 performance in the state tourney May 19-20 at Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis.
