THE DALLES — On June 28-29, the Drain Raider Bass Tournament is slated to begin in The Dalles, which is just one of a four-part qualifying tourney series taking place that leads up to the Grand Championship taking place in Boardman on Oct. 4-5.
Registration, which is open to the public without requiring any fishing affiliations, is $265, and begins on Friday, June 27 from 4-6 p.m. Event registrations can get entered into the tournament at The Dalles Marina, where the Drain Raider trailer will be located.
The event fully kicks off on Saturday, June 28 at 3 a.m. from The Dalles Marina, followed by the national anthem at 4:45 a.m., and single file boat launch at 5 a.m. The area covered by the tournament includes downriver all the way to Hood River, and upriver through The Dalles Dam locks (prearranged reservations required).
During the tourney, each entrant will submit their top 5 fish to earn points, with both large- and small-mouth bass needing to be a minimum of 12-inches long measured on a board. Participants will also need to have a live well as fish must be submitted live at the weigh-in at 3 p.m. each day of the tournament. Once submitted, fish are returned to where they were caught, then released.
Local estimates of the economic impact of this four-part tournament, which attracts fishermen and women from all across the Northwest, are forecasted to bring in $110,000 in economic impact when factoring in hotel rooms, meals, and other areas as a result of visitor expenditures.
Additionally, this tournament is further enhancing The Dalles as a desirable fishing destination for outdoorspeople, which can attract more visitors for future events and fishing activities.
After the June event, the other three tournaments of this qualifying series are taking place on July 26-27, Aug. 23-24, and Sept. 13-14.
