THE GORGE — Many of the Class 1A District 3 schools competed on April 11 at the 16-team Condon Invitational track and field meet where South Wasco won six events.
The Redsides’ Macy Bell, Bailey Udey, Jayda Iverson, and Jack Miles each won events, and teammate Storm McCoy won two. Bell won the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches, Udey the triple jump at 30-11.5, Iverson the 800 in 2 minutes, 36.05 seconds, and Miles the shot put at a PR 38-7. McCoy won the discus and javelin (143-1.25).
Lyle’s Ezekiel Marble had a good hurdle double at Condon Invitational. He won the 300s in 45.93 and was second in the 110s in a PR 17.67.
Horizon Christian competed in the Lower Columbia Invitational on April 12 in St. Helens, where the Hawks set two school records. The first came from senior Evelyn Tomka, who was third in the girls javelin with a PR throw of 107-9.
The second record came in the 4000-meter distance medley relay, which the Hawks won in 11:37.77. That time is among the top 10 all-time in Oregon for 1A schools. DMR relay team members were Brayden Strong, Aaron Johnson, Josh Carley, and Caleb Caldwell.
Also of note for Horizon were: Hannah Adams’ pole vault win and her season-best time of 16.18 (third place in the 100 hurdles); Josiah Roberts’ 123-3 discus throw (fourth); Landon Whitaker’s 45.36 (PR) and 17.49 times in the low and high hurdles; and teammate Charlie Haynie’s third place in the 110 hurdles (16.83).
Dufur competed on April 9 at a Tri-Valley meet at The Dalles. Senior Nolan Cates was quick with his two PRs — in the 100 (11.81) and 200 (24.39). Freshman Chase Richards ran a personal best 2:10.92 in the 800. Senior Roy Stahl threw the javelin 126-3.
The Ranger girls were led by the busy day of freshman Ellie Brock, including a 1:04.69 400 and her 52.75 time in the 300 hurdles. Brock added a 14-4.75 long jump and bounded 29-11.75 in the triple jump.
Trout Lake went to the 25-team Rob Frank invite April 12 at Banks, where the Mustangs had two wins. The wins came from pole vaulters Jade Mclean (9-0) and Sawyer Dean (15-3). Melody Stock ran a gutty distance double, placing second in the 1500 in a PR 5:00.38 and second in the 3000 (PR 11:10.79).
Ellie Rubesh was second in the triple jump with a PR mark of 30-4, and teammate Cora Sharp was second in the long jump. Sharp also was third in the 100 (13.49) and ran a leg on the Mustangs’ 4x100 relay along with Lisa Medina, Lupe Medina and Mclean (55.08). Lupe Medina, Stock, Riley Rickman and Mclean also ran the 4x400 relay in a district leading 4:37.38.
