Class 1A state playoff teams South Wasco County and Sherman County each had players honored on the 2024 Big Sky League volleyball all-star first and second teams.
South Wasco’s selections, on a vote of the league’s coaches, included the player of the year, junior Jayda Iverson. Joining her on the six-player, first team was junior Bailey Udey. The Redsides also had a second-team pick in senior Macy Bell, while sophomore Hailee Pechanec was honorable mention.
South Wasco (12-1 Big Sky, 22-11 overall) finished its season with a loss in the second round of the 32-team 1A playoffs. The Redsides were the regular season league champions and finished third in the district tourney.
Sherman junior Addison Smith was voted to the first team for the Huskies, who advanced to the first round at state. Sophomore teammate Kiara Peters made second-team all-league, and teammate Bailey Coelsch, a senior, was honorable mention.
Dufur sophomore Candence Young was a first-team pick for the Rangers, who made the district playoffs. Senior teammate Maddy Martell received honorable mention.
Klickwood, also a district playoff qualifier, had three players honored on the all-league team: second teamers, senior Jayla Avila and senior Kinsley Lanz; and freshman Jocee Hoctor, who was honorable mention.
Horizon Christian and Lyle each had a player honored: Horizon senior Evelyn Tomka and Lyle senior Danika Wright both were honorable mention.
