THE DALLES — The Dalles High Riverhawks boys wrestling team capped the 2024-25 season with juniors Harley Scott and Josh Brackenbury qualifying for the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) Class 4A wrestling state championships Feb. 27-March 1 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The Riverhawks duo each won one-out-of-three state tournament matches, Feb. 28.
“They ran into some tough kids though and they were eliminated from the tourney on the first day … Going to the state tournament is a great experience though and it will help them when they come back next year,” Coach Barry Abrams said.
Brackenbury, a two-time tournament participant, won his first match in the 175-pound weight class by fall over sophomore Hayden Williams of Hidden Valley. Brackenbury lost in the quarterfinals by fall to junior Luke Rosa of Sweet Home, and he then lost a consolation round match to Elijah Cruz of Sweet Home.
Abrams said Brackenbury and Scott will be team leaders next year as seniors, along with Alexander DeLaTorre, a junior, who was injured this year.
Scott, who was appearing in the tourney for the first time, lost his opening match in the 138-pound division to Greg Hall of St. Helens. Scott then came back and won a consolation round match before losing his third match by fall.
