MAUPIN — The Trout Lake girls won eight individual events and both relays to highlight team performances at the 12-team South Wasco Invitational track and field meet on a windy May 3 in Maupin.
The Mustangs were led by the two wins from sophomore distance runner Melody Stock, two more from sprinter/jumper Cora Sharp, and the double-win day by Violette Anderson. Stock raced to a lifetime best of 10 minutes, 51.86 seconds in the 3000-meters and also won the 1500 (4:58.33). Sharp won the 100 meters in 13.39 and the long jump 14-5.5 (against the steady wind). Anderson won the high hurdles in 17.84 and the shot put at 33-8.
Trout Lake also received a first-place showing from vaulter Jade Mclean, who cleared 9 feet, and another from frosh Ellie Rubesh, who won the triple jump at 29-5.75.
The Mustangs swept the relays. Sharp and Mclean joined Lupe Medina and Riley Rickman on the first-place 4x100 (53.78), and Medina, Stock, Sharp and Mclean won the 4x400 in 4:37.25. Medina was second in the 300 hurdles in a season-best 52.08.
Dufur’s girls were led by freshman Ellie Brock, who sliced through the win around the final curve to win the 400 in a personal best 1:02.4.
Horizon Christian was led by the 1-2 finish of Karis Caldwell and Hannah Adams in a friendly rivalry 200. They also joined Mamae Bernard and Bella Sperry to finish second in the 4x100. Adams and Sperry tied for second in the high jump at 4-8.
South Wasco’s Macy Bell won the high jump at 4-10 and teammate Jayda Iverson won the 800 in 2:40.57.
Lyle/Wishram was led by senior Danika Wright, who won the discus and was second in the shot put.
Horizon Christian’s boys had three wins: senior Caleb Caldwell ran alone and won the 3000; senior Josiah Roberts won the discus at 124-8; and sophomore Tyler Abbott won the 400 in a personal best 55.44 (and was second in the high jump at 5-8).
Dufur was led by senior Nolan Cates, who won three events and anchored the Rangers’ first-place 4x100 relay. Cates won the high jump at a PR 5-10; the long jump with a PR 20-2; and the 100 in PR 11.7. Freshman Bryson Cates, Chase Richards and Noah Coleman joined Nolan on the first-place relay.
Glenwood’s Shane Spino had a solid day on the track. He won the 200, and he was second in the 100 (11.86 PR) and the 400 (55.92 PR).
Lyle/Wishram’s boys were led by Ezekiel Marble, who won the high hurdles in a PR 16.96 and the lows in 43.75. Teammates Carson Ramsey and Jack Thiemann went 1-2 in the long jump and Thiemann was runner-up in the triple jump.
Trout Lake senior Gael Fuentes won the triple jump in a PR 40-8.5. Teammate Sawyer Dean, the all-time OSAA 1A state leader in the pole vault, topped 15-3 to win that event by five feet. Jayden Kusky improved his discus best to 121-4, good enough for second place, after winning the shot put at 46-8.
The host South Wasco boys were led by senior Storm McCoy’s personal record throw of 159-0 in the javelin.
