HOOD RIVER — Hood River Valley senior Logan King ran away from the field and set a school record in the process, winning the Silver Division of the Oct. 11 Rose City Championship cross country meet in Portland.
King won the race by 20 seconds in 15 minutes, 28.5 seconds in leading Hood River to eighth place out of 17 teams. King’s time for 5,000 meters is the fastest all-time in school history, eclipsing the 15:40.4 best of Leo Castillo in 2007.
The meet was held at Rose City Golf Club and the dry surface and fast course led to numerous personal bests. Hood River’s six other varsity runners included: Victor Coffman, 27th, PR 16:54; Copeland Louis, 41st, PR 17:16; Davis Kerr, 56th, 17:35; Coin Gerald, 69th, PR 17:53; Brayden Strong, 74th, PR 17:58; and Leland Flood, 98th, PR 18:43.
Lakeridge of Lake Oswego won the boys team title with 82 points; Hood River Valley scored 181 points. 117 runners finished the race.
