The Dalles Junior Baseball Association (TDJBA), also known as the “Junior Hawks”, finished its inaugural season with a 15-5 record in 2024.
The youth baseball organization included players in second through sixth grade from The Dalles, Dufur and Sherman school districts. The team played games against teams from Pendleton, Hood River, White Salmon, Prineville and Tualatin.
“We don’t have traditional tryouts to field teams, so recruiting players is always ongoing,” said TDJBA Director Patrick Urain.
Practices for the Junior Hawks began in early January, running two to three times a week until mid-March.
Urain said a season highlight was the team winning the Nelson/Clackamas Mother’s Day Junior Baseball Tournament with an 8-1 victory over Scio on Mother’s Day Sunday boosting the Junior Hawks’ season record to 8-5. The team’s success continued at the Sherwood Junior Baseball Father’s Day Tournament, as the The Dalles-based team claimed another title with a 9-5 victory against Banks on Father’s Day Sunday.
A grant from the Urain family provided financial support to get the organization off the ground. TDJBA secured local business sponsors for each player — at $150 per sponsorship. Urain said the business partners made it possible for more children to participate without financial barriers.
The Junior Hawk team is seeking players (second through sixth grade) for the 2025 season. For more information on the Dalles Junior Baseball Association and how to get involved, contact: 253-691-7496 or tdhawksbaseball@gmail.com.
