HOOD RIVER — Hood River Valley won two more Northwest Oregon Conference (NWOC) dual swimming meets this past week at Hood River Aquatics Center.
The Eagles boys and girls teams each bested Centennial and Rex Putnam on Jan. 16.
The HRV boys beat Putnam, 73-25, and Centennial, 70-47. Hood River’s girls won 114-44 over Putnam, and 119-27 vs. Centennial.
Coach Shelly Rawding’s Hood River squad swept the opening event, the 200-meter medley relay, and never looked back. Tess Marsden, Kylin Elliott, Delaney Hackett, and Nyxey Heredia combined to win the girls race in 2 minutes, 26.47, edging their teammates — Ava Giordano, Isabel Ulland, Maya Arndt, and Olivia Riek — who swam to second place in 2:27.31.
Each also had individual placings. Heredia was second in the 200 freestyle and later won the 400 free in 5:36.46. Hackett added a win in the 100 backstroke (1:24.48) and won the 100 butterfly in 1:23.4. Elliott won the 100 breaststroke in 1:30.86. Marsden was fourth in the 100 free. On the runner-up relay team, Giordano was second in the 50 free (31.11) and second to Hackett in the 100 back (1:28.74). Ulland was second to teammate Sophia Helleberg in the 200 individual medley, and fourth in the 100 breast. Arndt was second to Heredia in a dead heat in the 400 free (5:36.59) and third in the 200 free. Riek was third in the 100 free.
HRV’s Sophie Cross won the 200 free (2:30.86) and 100 free (1:09.05) and also anchored the team’s first place freestyle relays. The 200 relay of Helleberg, Hackett, Giordano and Cross won in 2:06.52; the 400 relay of Arndt, Helleberg, Heredia and Cross won in 4:47.84.
The Hood River boys also swept the relays, capped by the 400 free team of Ori Maccabee, Logan Griffith, Dominik Finlayson, and Moshe Tsypin. Liam McGeeney, Tsypin, Kane Wager, and Felipe Mendez won the 200 free relay; and Max Webster, Mendez, McGeeney, and Wagner won the opening relay, the 200 medley, in 2:13.3.
Winning boys individual events for HRV were Mendez (200 IM, 2:40.02 and 100 fly, 1:12.75); McGeeney (50 free, 28.93, over teammates Webster in 29.02, and Wagner in 29.36); Wagner (100 free, 1:05.63); and Tsypin (100 breast, 1:37.93).
