Hood River Valley’s boys golf team qualified to play at the 2024 regional tourney with its fourth-place finish in the Northwest Oregon Conference.
The regional tourney — which includes the second-, third- and fourth-place teams from the NWOC and Intermountain Conference — is May 7 at Aspen Lakes in Sisters.
Hood River’s final tune-up for regionals was April 29 at Indian Creek Golf Course in Hood River. The Eagles were fourth, seven strokes behind Canby.
“We went into this last event tied with Canby in the third position,” Coach Erin Mason said. “We had been back-and-forth with Canby all season. It was a cold, wet day at Indian Creek for the first nine and then the back nine the sun came out."
Canby and Hood River will be joined by Wilsonville at regionals — representing the NWOC. La Salle Prep won the league title and earned an automatic berth to the OSAA 5A state championships. Two teams of the six at regionals will advance to the 5A state tourney, as well as five individuals (not on qualifying teams).
HRV’s Davis Kerr and John Olsen figure to be in the mix for two of the individual berths. “That duo has kept us in the hunt every week,” Mason said.
Olsen finished seventh in the overall NWOC individual rankings this season. “It’s so awesome how John has transformed his game in 11 months — between seasons,” Mason said of the junior who has a 79.2 stroke average (18 holes). Kerr finished 12th overall in the NWOC, with an 84.6 stroke average.
