HOOD RIVER — Hood River Valley’s state playoff football team had 14 players honored for their play this past season by Special District 1 coaches.
The Eagles’ picks for 2024 all-league included two-way, first-team player Bam Layna. The junior running back was noted for his play on offense and at linebacker on defense. Four other HRV players were first-team selections: junior offensive lineman Lars Welch; senior linebacker Jack McLaughlin; and defensive backs Toby Stintzi, a senior, and Cooper Wells, a junior.
Four players were honored with spots on the second team: sophomore wide receiver Davin Snyder; junior offensive lineman Jack Miller; and defensive linemen Omar Sedano, a senior, and Logan Lavoie, also a senior. Miller also was a second team offensive and defensive lineman as a sophomore; Sedano was a second teamer on defense in 2023; and Lavoie received honorable mention that season.
Honorable mention in 2024 went to senior quarterback Davis Parr, who along with Stinzi and Lavoie were four-year varsity players; junior H-back Nick Tuttle; senior offensive lineman Tristan Pasto; Miller and junior Miguel Arriola on the defensive line; and junior Bodie Stuben in the secondary. Arriola was a second-team defensive lineman in 2023; and Parr was honorable mention quarterback in 2022 as a sophomore.
Coach Caleb Sperry’s Hood River Valley team finished with a 7-3 overall record and was 5-2 in district play. The Eagles lost to Dallas High, 28-13, in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs. Seniors on this year’s team hold the unique distinction of being in the program when it qualified for the state playoffs all four years of their high school careers.
