HOOD RIVER — A warm, sunny day did wonders for the Hood River Valley track and field team at its second Northwest Oregon Conference (NWOC) meet April 9 at Rex Putnam in Milwaukie.
The Eagles had numerous personal bests from the outset of the dual meet. Senior Jacob Smith won the 100 meters in a PR 11.49 seconds and teammate Matt Trickey won the 200 (24.43). Smith also PR’d in the 200 (24.68), which was the second-best time of the day behind Trickey’s.
Distance runners Logan King and Sam Knoll got in some speed work in preparation for the April 12 weekend Wilsonville Invitational (see related story). They and teammate Sam Knoll went 1-2-3 in the 800 — with King running a personal best 1:58.48 and Wagner close behind at 2:00.67 (PR). The three, along with Andres Moretti, later ran 400s on the first-place, 4x400 team (3:41.63).
Sophomore hurdler Wyeth Droege won both of his races — the 110s in a PR 17.19 and the 300s in 45.64. In between, he cleared 5-8 to win the high jump and PR’d in the long jump at 18-0.75.
Throwers Omar Sedano and Jack Miller continued to add distance to their personal bests. Sedano won the shot put (43-2.5 PR) and discus (126-4 PR), and Miller won the javelin (162-4). Pole vaulter Francisco Solberg won with a season best 12-6 vault.
HRV’s talented freshmen group provided some highlights for the girls team. Georgiana Williams won the 100 meters (13.25 PR) and 200 (27.25 PR), and they ran legs on the first-place 4x100 and 4x400 relays. The short relay of Williams, frosh Lilah Tactay, frosh Camila Luna and sophomore Kiera Brennan won in 52.66. Juniors Sadie Baumann and Syl Perrin joined frosh Savina Davis and Williams to run 4:26.32 on the long relay.
Davis and Perrin went 1-2 in the 800 — each with PRs of 2:26.89 and 2:30.83. Davis added a win in the 400 (1:01.95); Tactay won the high jump at 4-8 and was second in the long jump (14-2 PR). Teammate Giselle Romero won the long jump at 14-5.5 (PR). Senior Alex Bronson, the NWOC leader in the triple jump, won that horizontal event at 31-1.5.
