Eagle girls top Parkrose, but fail on playoff bid

Coach Steve Noteboom’s team beat Parkrose on Feb. 28 to remain in contention for one of the four league automatic Class 5A state playoffs berths. But HRV also needed Hillsboro to lose its game at Canby, which didn’t happen. Hillsboro and Canby each finished with 8-6 records and earned the NWOC’s third and fourth playoff spots. Wilsonville is the No. 1 seed to state and La Salle Prep is No. 2.

Hood River broke open the Parkrose game with a 17-3 scoring run midway through the second quarter. Julia Rowan started the run with three successive 3-pointers, the first two on assists from Bella Howe. Later during the run, Howe added a trey of her own, Mia Garcia contributed five points including an old-fashioned, three-point play, and Addi Van Metre added a basket.

All nine HRV players who dressed down for the game scored at least two points. Rowan and Garcia both had 13 to lead the way.
