The Hood River Valley High Eagles boys golf team finished sixth at the eight-team IMC/NWOC Regional tourney May 6-7 at Aspen Lakes, and two players, John Olsen and Davis Kerr, qualified for the OSAA Class 5A state tournament.
Kerr shot an 86 to finish eighth place individually out of 38 golfers and he qualified for state a third straight year. Kerr and Olsen competed at the boys state tourney May 13-14 at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks.
“Quail Valley is a very scoreable course with five holes that you really have to stick to a certain shot plan,” said Coach Erin Mason. “Both of these guys have had some great rounds this year. John shot a 74 at one tourney earlier this year and he had a 78 at another one, too. They both have the potential to finish in the top-15 at state. Davis has improved tremendously each year at his state appearances.”
Kerr took 37th place last year out of 58 state tourney golfers, and he took 51st place in 2022.
The Eagles’ regional squad shot a team score of 364. Olsen shot an 88 for 11th place and he qualified for the state tourney for the first time. Junior Aiden Willis (94) and Nils Reierson (96) rounded out the Eagles’ top-four players. Junior Braden Zorza shot a non-counting team score of 111 for HRV.
The Wilsonville High Wildcats, led by junior medalist Michael Flaherty (76), won the regional championship with a score of 327.
