THE GORGE — Trout Lake senior Violette Anderson and South Wasco County junior Jason Hull were selected by the Big Sky League coaches as the players of the year for the 2024-25 basketball season.
Anderson led the Trout Lake girls to a runner-up finish at district; Hull and the Redsides’ boys team finished third at last weekend’s district tourney. The all-district teams were announced at the conclusion of the respective girls and boys championship contests at The Dalles High School.
The district champion South Wasco girls had three players honored: sophomore Hailee Pechanec was a first-team pick; junior Bailey Udey gained a spot on the second team; and junior Jayda Iverson was honorable mention.
Anderson was joined on the Big Sky girls first team by her teammate, junior Emma Patterson. Also on the first team were senior Morgan Cole-Hand of Wheeler County; and seniors Najiah Knight and Victoria De La Torre of Ione/Arlington.
The girls second team also included junior Makaila Miller of Dufur, senior Willow Wright of Condon, junior Allison Rolfe of Sherman, sophomore Candence Young of Dufur, and junior Addison Smith of Sherman. Two other players earned honorable mention: Sherman senior Bailey Coelsch and Trout Lake senior Kinsley Lanz.
Boys district champion Sherman County had first-team picks Gabe Fritts and Jamie Phelps, and second team selection Isaiah Riggs. Also on the first team were Horizon Christian’s Tyler Abbott, and Wheeler County’s Leven Whitbeck. Abbott is a sophomore and the others are seniors.
On the second team were: Jack Thiemann, a junior from Lyle/Wishram; Storm McCoy, South Wasco senior; Jacob Brown, Dufur senior; and Brodie Bass, Condon senior. Earning honorable mention were: Rowen Huff, Trout Lake junior; Ryder Steward, Ione/Arlington junior; Talon Cabral, Klickitat/Glenwood sophomore; Jackson Helms, Condon senior; Owen Spino, Klickitat/Glenwood junior; and Carson Ramsay, Lyle/Wishram junior.
