Cause of Dam Break Winter Storm Rain

The second big winter storm of the season almost a month to the day after the Christmas-time flood, caused the 40-year-old dam on the Gryce Road property to give away last Saturday. Its cascading waters plowed into Jewett Creek, causing an hour long flood as it swept on it’s charging way to the Columbia. Gryce Read stated Wednesday that the lake formed by the dam was 22 feet deep, covered two acres of land about 200 feet higher up the hill from their home and about a half mile up the canyon from their home. The washout of the dam caused the Reads to lose both their 4-inch irrigation system and their house domestic line which came from a spring at the food of the dam.
