Sweet and Sad staged reading Dec. 13-14 in The Dalles

A STAGED READING of “Sweet and Sad” will be performed Dec. 13 and 14 at The Dalles Civic Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. The cast, from left, includes Julie Jindal, Joe Garoutte, Tom Burns, Irene Fields, Brenda Hering, and Gary Young.

Columbia Center for the Arts presents a staged reading of “Sweet and Sad,” by Richard Nelson, directed by Judie Hanel at The Dalles Civic Auditorium.

“Sweet and Sad” is, you might say, a dinner-table play. The play features three adult sisters, played by Brenda Hering, Irene Fields and Julie Jindal; one lawyer brother, now catering to Wall Street, played by Tom Burns; an aspiring actor reluctantly working as a waiter, played by Joe Garoutte; and Uncle Benjamin, played by Gary Young, an old actor who, following a heart attack has developed amnesia — which in a world that produced 9/11, is not an entirely bad thing.
