Singers play St. Pat’s at St. Pete’s

The Landmark is located at Third and Lincoln streets in The Dalles.

Cascade Children’s Choir, under the direction of Lloyd Walworth, will sing “The Minstrel Boy.” Guitarist Victor Johnson will accompany the children and also present two Irish children’s game songs. Deniese Sajdak and her violin students are offering a set of Irish fiddle jigs, slides and ballads.

Tenor soloist Jordan Palmer will take a break from his role in the high school musical to sing the St. Patrick’s Day favorite, “Danny Boy.”

Joining the “Almost-All-Irish Almost-All-Brass Band” for the third year is St. Mary’s student Ruby Dosier on tuba. This year her younger sister Audra is playing flute in the band.

Older generations are also well-represented with vocal and instrumental offerings. Sam Woolsey will sing “The Whistling Gypsy,” and Caroline Homer and Dennis Williams will present “Peggy O’Neill” on accordion and clarinet.

Choir numbers include an entry march set including “McNamara’s Band,” “The Bold Soldier Boy,” and “Wearing of the Green.” Also “The Fields of Athenry,” “The Irish Washer Woman” and “Old Irish Blessing.”

Women of the choir will sing “The Gartan Mother’s Lullaby” with Stan Rosengren accompanying on flute, and choir men will be featured in a barbershop arrangement of “My Wild Irish Rose.”

“Phil the Fluter’s Ball” comes from the Irish music hall tradition and will be sung by the Cascade Singers Ensemble. Rounding out the show are several sing-alongs.

Corin Parker accompanies on piano and the band represents an odd collection of instruments: flute, tuba, accordion, guitar, bohdran, washtub bass, fiddle, washboard, kazoo, melodica, clarinet and pennywhistle.

Walworth directs this conglomeration for its 14th St. Patrick’s Day concert.

Admission is a free-will offering to benefit St. Peter’s Landmark.
