Okay, Mid Valley—there’s a lot of stuff for the ol’ calendar this time around, so get your pencils ready.
With the beginning of school come the annual open houses. Wy’east Middle School will hold their Open House and Fall Eagle Fest on Sept. 23 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., and Mid Valley Elementary will hold their open house Sept. 25 from 6-8 p.m. Both are an opportunity to go to your child’s school, meet teachers and learn what to expect in the coming year. Watch for more info coming home from each school soon.
The annual Gorge Kids Triathlon is Sept. 21, and the Mid Valley PTO is looking for volunteers to help with the event, which supports health and fitness activities in all district elementary schools. More than 50 volunteers are still needed; to help, register at http://gkt.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer/?id=6740. More info can also be found on the Gorge Kids Tri Facebook page (keyword: Gorge Kids Tri).
Sept. 20 will be the last Mercado del Valle of the season. If you haven’t already visited the farmers’ market, located in the covered play area at Mid Valley Elementary from 3-7 p.m., this is your last chance until next year. The market features local farms and produce, kids’ activities, information booths, artisans, music and more.
The Hood River County Fairgrounds is hosting a Ranch Sorting horse event on Sept. 20. Practice starts at 9 a.m. and competition begins at 12:30 p.m. “It is designed for the beginners to come learn and have a good time,” said Fair Manager Clara Rice. For more info visit hoodriverfair.org.
Also this weekend (Sept. 20-21) is the annual Fruit Loop Pear Celebration. In Odell, Cody Orchards and Fruit Stand and Packer Orchards and Bakery will have pears, baked goods and more.
Parents, grandparents and those wishing to help support Mid Valley Elementary can do so by purchasing Rosauers scrip from the school office. It comes in $25, $50 and $100 increments, and 5-pecent of the purchase price goes directly to the school.
