A turtle, apparently bent on “seeing the city,” was picked up in the middle of the road in Thompson’s addition this morning by M. D. Ashley of the Sunset dairy. When removed from the danger of passing vehicles the turtle was progressing at the rate of almost two feet a minute, and might have reached Second Street by next Fourth of July, Ashley estimated. He has the turtle, evidently some persons pet inasmuch as a hole had been drilled in a corner of the shell for “tethering” purposes, and the owner may call for it. — The Dalles Daily Chronicle, July 5, 1944
