HOOD RIVER — If you have seen the 2004 movie “Mean Girls,” then you know roughly how this year’s fall musical unfolds: We have Cady (played by Anna Southall), who has been homeschooled her entire life, navigating the new world of cliques and bullies. We have Regina George (Paloma Williams), the most popular girl in school, and her friends Gretchen (Ivy Collins) and Karen (Nora Larvick), known collectively as “The Plastics.” And we have Damian (Seth Millan) and Janis (Cadence Ronning), two best friends low on the social ladder.

Longtime Hood River Valley High School Theater Teacher and Director Rachel Harry said she chose this musical because “it’s something we need right now. Our students deal with the apex predators on a daily basis, and while they have remarkable coping skills to deal with this struggle, they need to be heard,” she said. She also found empowering messages in the show’s many musical numbers.
