Last week’s photo from the Oregon Historical Society showed Baldwin Saloon in The Dalles, with a huge advertisement for Boca Beer on it. Bruce Johnson and Carolyn Wood identified the building, and Wood added that before its last 30 years as the Baldwin Saloon, it was the Bonney Saddle Shop for many years. Oregon’s historic property inventory indicated Garth Bonney owned the place before Jim and John Baldwin, and later Charlie Allen, opened saloons there. The facade is dated 1876 and the ironwork was made in San Francisco. There is a medical symbol atop each iron polaster. Original doors and windows were bricked up.
