The habitation of Bigfoot information, sometime in the last century. Anybody know what else this photo signifies? Email your guess, information or research to Flora M. Gibson at florag@gorgenews.com or call 541-993-1801. We’ll publish whatever we learn next week.
Last week’s image of several proud dignitaries on a bridge was donated to Columbia Gorge Discovery Center by Dan Spatz, and is number 2024.45.10.5.2A in their collections. This print, once owned by Don Williams, shows the Mill Creek Bridge crossing Mill Creek at Sixth Street, near the Bennet-Williams house at the foot of Trevitt Street. Susan Buce recognized the early bridge, and guesses that Judge Alfred Bennet is a possible identity for one of the people shown. This photo may have been taken prior to 1922, as this stretch of Highway 30 was completed in 1922. At some point, this old bridge was replaced with a stone bridge that matches Highway 30. Oregon Historic Site Records for the National Register of Historic Places indicate the stone bridge was constructed in about 1920, making this photo over 100 years old.
And for Dec. 18, due to early holiday deadlines, we missed Gary Conley and Mary Batty, who both recognized an old photo of The Dalles airport, which was probably taken in the 1930s or 1940s before many changes took place to the area.
