Trisha Walker photoHOOD RIVER — The History Museum of Hood River County, 300 E. Port Marina Way, has a new, temporary exhibit that showcases a number of historic quilts from its collection.
“One of a Kind: Historic Quilts from the History Museum of Hood River County” opened in October and will run through Dec. 30.
Included is a “necktie quilt” made by Alice Bushnell Watrous Graff (1868-1946), an example of “the evolving artistry of quilting. As a marker of time, this quilt reflects the customary practice of women creating quilt sets for their new homes after marriage. In this case, Alice ingeniously repurposed her husband Harmon’s neckties for the quilt blocks, a testament both to the couple’s union and practicality of early quilting,” according to its accompanying placard.
A friendship quilt, Ohio star quilt, log cabin and a Women’s Relief corps quilt are also on display, among others. A full story and photos will appear in an upcoming edition of Columbia Gorge News.
