Visit the Hood River Library during the month of October to view a wide array of photographs taken by the Gorge Photography Club. The show will express the diversity of interests and creative vision of the participants.
The Gorge Photography Club focuses on learning about the craft and art of photography with the goal to take better photographs. The club has over thirty members from The Dalles, Hood River, Mosier, White Salmon and beyond. They have bi-monthly meetings from September through May, which are held alternately in Hood River and The Dalles. Anyone is invited to attend their meetings and to share in the camaraderie of a group of like-minded folks.
At the meetings group members listen to speakers, watch how-to demos, and share information. The programs are appropriate for all levels of experience. The variety in photographic equipment among the membership guarantees that someone will have the information new members are looking for.
Member shows and monthly competitions provide opportunities to share favorite photos with peers, plus get feed-back and pointers on how to improve. Club sponsored field trips give members another way to improve their shooting. It might be exploring a new place or discovering new ways of seeing familiar places with fellow photographers.
The Gorge Photography Club is a member of the greater Columbia Council of Camera Clubs. Over 30 similar clubs in Idaho, Washington, California, Oregon and British Columbia meet annually at a conference where nationally known presenters share their knowledge. The Council also conducts inter-club competitions with a showing of all the top awards at the convention.
