Vicky Valdez has qualified, along with several relatives, to compete in the Indian National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, Nev., on Nov. 5 to 9. A fundraiser will be held at the Glenwood School from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, to help raise money for Vicky’s traveling expenses to the INFR. Indian taco and dessert or salmon, fry bread, salad and dessert dinners will be available for $8 and $10 respectively. A silent auction will also be held during the dinner. This will be a great chance for a wonderful meal; and to help Vicky compete in her first INFR!
Vicky competed throughout the summer in Western States Indian Rodeo Association-sanctioned rodeos. WSIRA draws contestants from Washington, Oregon, Nevada and Cali-fornia. Miss Valdez ended up second in junior barrel racing and sixth in junior breakaway at the end of the 2013 WSIRA schedule! Good luck as you compete in the INFR to be held at the South Point Arena and Equestrian Center, Vicky!
Seems like the Throop family has some accomplishments of note in the rodeo arena as well! Jason, Jaylin and Jonathan competed in the American Cowboys Team Roping Association Finals for the Northwest Chapter at Trac Arena in Pasco on Sept. 19 to 22. Jonathan placed fifth in the #4 team roping with his partner Buck Griswold; and took home a nice wool ACTRA team roping saddle pad and some prize money! The Throops qualified at Trac to compete in the ACTRA National Finals at Sparks Livestock Events Center in Reno, Nev. The ACTRA finals will run from Oct. 19 to 28; and will feature a lot of team roping, vendors and a western art show. Good luck to the Throop family as they represent the Northwest in Reno later this month!
The opportunity to get an early start on your Christmas shopping is coming to Glenwood on Nov. 2. The Glenwood Fall Bazaar will offer handmade gifts, baked goods, food and much more from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. at the school. Booth reservations are requested by Oct. 26. Thank you to supporters and workers who braved the wet weather on Sept. 29 to ride, eat and/or buy a hand at the Fun Prize Ride at the Glenwood Rodeo Grounds. In spite of less-than optimal weather…we enjoyed a good turnout for our 11th annual ride!
Athletes from Glenwood School are busy in volleyball, soccer and football this fall. Plan to support our local youth as they travel to White Salmon, Trout Lake and Klickitat daily to compete in high school sports. Junior high girls are also playing volleyball.
