Ruins open at Springhouse

Hood River's Springhouse Cellar continues its summer Ruins Tuesdays Concert Series. This popular weekly series features live music from top NW bands, local wines, beers and specialty food vendors. The events will be free and all-ages from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., and then become 21 and over only after 7 p.m., with a $3 entrance fee. Attendees will be able to avoid the $3 entry fee by arriving before 7 p.m. In case of inclement weather, shows will move inside to the Back Room at Springhouse Cellar.

‘Urinetown’ opens July 10

Columbia Center for the Arts and CAST Theater proudly present the comedic musical “Urinetown.” “Urinetown” made a big splash on Broadway, asking the question “How much would you pay to pee?” You'll burst with laughter as the residents of Urinetown grapple with this burning question. This darkly comic meta-musical tells of a dystopian society in which everyone must pay a tax in order to use the bathroom, and wins the audience over by the end of the first show tune.

“Urinetown” is written by Greg Kotis and Mark Hollman and is directed by HRVHS music teacher Mark Steighner. The play opens on July 10 and continues July 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee on July 13 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for students and seniors, $10 for children 11 and under and $12 for groups of 10 or more. Tickets are available on line at www.columbia arts.org, at Columbia Center for the Arts and Waucoma Bookstore.

Free Shakespeare at Maryhill

Woodland fairies and sprites will wander the gardens at Maryhill Museum of Art in Goldendale on Saturday, July 19, at 3 p.m. when the Portland Actors Ensemble presents a free performance of one of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

The popular comedy follows the adventures of four young star-crossed lovers, a group of amateur actors, and a duke and a duchess as they chance upon mischievous fairies and their elves in a magical forest. The production is part of the company’s annual Shakespeare-in-the-Parks series, which makes live theater accessible to a wide audience. This is the 45th season of Shakespeare-in-the-Parks. Audience members are invited to bring their own seating – blankets or camp chairs – and can picnic on site.

Volcanic celebrates 4 years
