Secret Salsa meets Jan. 10

Secret Salsa Society invites everyone to experience the joy of Latin dancing — join them on Friday, Jan. 10, as Portland instructor Sarah Riddle, owner of Viscount Dance Studio, teaches a sampling of Latin dance styles. No experience necessary; no partner needed; all ages welcome. Lesson starts at 7:30 p.m. There is a social dance afterwards until 10:30 p.m. Admission is $10. Mt. View Grange, 1085 N. Creative writing class Jan. 3

The Dalles Art Center presents a creative writing and illustration class for children, where students will explore various brainstorming techniques for writing short stories. All children who love to draw or write are welcome, and be sure to bring all your great ideas to class. The $25 class fee includes a sketchbook for each student. Friday, Jan. 3, 10 a.m.-noon. ‘Driving Miss Daisy’ Jan. 12

“Portland-based outfit Sassparilla has been referred to as indie-roots, punk-Americana, and punk-roots. Though it is the subtleties and folk-pop leanings of their latest, “The Darndest Thing,” that find this five-piece band slowing things down a bit — and growing up musically.

‘You Knew Me When’ Jan. 3

“After uprooting from their Nashville home and full-time jobs in June of 2012, the husband and wife duo ‘You Knew Me When’ set plans to tour the nation for a full year. Since that time they have been serving up their craft-brewed compositions coast to coast throughout the USA and into Canada, released their first studio album ‘You, Me, and the Rest of the World,’ and have done so as a fully independent entity.” On Jan. 3, the duo will continue their ongoing tour as they perform in White Salmon at Everybody’s Brewing, at 9 p.m.
