Church news in brief

On Saturday, Jan. 25, the Ladies Tea will be at 10 a.m., in the church basement. All ladies are welcome.

The Year of the Young Family planning will continue Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 6:30 p.m. This is the follow-up to consolidate and implement ideas offered from an initial idea gathering meeting two weeks ago.

“It’s our hope that visitors new and old might find a comfortable fit as they join us for worship this weekend,” a church press release stated.

Gateway Presbyterian

Pastor Tim Vance will give the message at both the 8:30 a.m. traditional and 11 a.m. contemporary service. Adult, youth and children’s classes are held from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

Wednesday classes begin at 6 p.m. and include youth group, women’s study on Margaret Feinberg’s “Wonder Struck,” men’s study and Parenting TODAY, which begins at 5:30. Childcare provided during classes.

Thursdays is men’s Bible study at 6:30 a.m., and ACTS after school.

Mid-Columbia Fellowship of Churches

The Mid-Columbia Fellowship of Churches annual meeting and catered dinner is Saturday, March 1, at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church, 305 E. 11th St, The Dalles. This event is open to all interested persons and reservations are required by Monday, Feb. 24. Tickets are $14 apiece, and are available at participating churches: First United Methodist, St. Paul‘s Episcopal, St. Peter Catholic Church, United Church of Christ Congregational and Zion Lutheran.

The event speaker is Steve Ross, assistant to the bishop of the United Methodist Church of the Oregon-Idaho Conference, who will focus on options for congregations to work more closely together.

Also, next Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 5 p.m. the monthly Fellowship of Churches forum will be held at First Methodist, with Melissa Howtopat as guest speaker. She will speak about programs of the Area Agency on Aging.
