Pope Francis announced Saturday, Sept. 7, would be a worldwide day of fasting and prayer for peace in Syria, and St. Peter Catholic Church will have a Eucharistic adoration from 8 a.m. until noon that day.
Fr. Joseph Levine of St. Peter Catholic church explained, “In Eucharistic Adoration the ‘host’ (a piece of bread that has been consecrated so as to become the Body of Christ) is displayed in what is called a ‘monstrance’ and set upon the altar. During a time of adoration, some of the faithful must always be present in the church building in prayer, and it is an opportunity for all of the faithful to come, worship the Lord in his Eucharistic presence, give him thanks for his great gift, and offer their prayers.”
The Eucharistic Adoration will conclude on Saturday with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament (another name for the Eucharist) in which the priest blesses the congregation with the ‘host’ in the monstrance.
Francis invited Catholics, other Christians, those of other faiths and non-believers who are “men of good will” to join him Sept. 7 to invoke the “gift” of peace for Syria, the rest of the Middle East and worldwide where there is conflict.
Heritage Bible Baptist
Come to Heritage Bible Baptist Church for fun and creative fellowship on the second Friday of each month, which will fall on Sept. 13 this month. Lots of ideas and materials are free to help people become creative and to start those holiday projects now. The group meets at the church, at 905 Heritage Way, and starts at 7 p.m.
Glow Night
The Vertical Fusion Youth Ministries at the Life In Christ Center is having a “Glow Night” Friday, Sept. 6, from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
“Join us as we light up the night with tons of fun activities for teenagers — video games, airsoft, waterslide, volleyball, music, give-a-ways, glow bracelets, pizza, soda and more. The event is free.
“Glow Night” is a safe, drug- and alcohol-free community event for teens.
Dufur Christian
The Mud Springs Gospel Band will perform at Dufur Christian Church Sunday, Sept. 15 at 10 a.m.
Gateway Presbyterian
Gateway has an 8:30 a.m. traditional service and an 11 a.m. contemporary service. Pastor Tim Vance will give the message this Sunday. He is starting a new sermon series entitled, GROW. New adult classes begin between 9:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.
Wednesday programs are at 6 p.m., including youth group, men’s study and children’s ministries.
Every Thursday at 10 a.m. is a Play Day at Gateway. It includes a secure, safe place on the playground to come have kids play while their moms enjoy coffee and conversation.
