A packed house of more than 200 attended the fourth annual Aporkalypse fundraiser for Helping Hands Against Violence on Jan. 29 at Springhouse Cellars.
Nine restaurants competed: Apple Valley BBQ, Camp 1805, Crooked Tree Tavern, Divots, Double Mountain, Lake Taco, Solstice Café, The Last Bite, and White Buffalo. Camp 1805 won the Judge’s Award and the Golden Ticket to the World Bacon Championships in Florida this fall.
Camp 1805 won for a whiskey-soaked bacon dish, and Lake Taco won the People’s choice award for a bean soup/chili with corn chips fried with bacon.
“It was an outstanding competition,” said Helping Hands director Stephanie Irving. Judges gave Camp 1805 a total of 79 points, Apple Valley 78, and Lake Taco 77.
The event raised almost $5,000 from ticket, raffle, and bailing a few key people out of the “pig pen”: artist Mark Nilsson, Officer Michael Martin, Rep. Mark Johnson and realtor Greg Colt.
