THE DALLES — Windermere Real Estate offices in Oregon and SW Washington are collecting essential school supplies and monetary donations now through Aug. 27 in partnership with Schoolhouse Supplies and KGW. As part of the initiative, Windermere will match up to $5,000 in monetary donations made Aug. 18-24.
Each year, over half of local students don’t have the basic school supplies to succeed, making this effort especially critical for families across the region.
With more than 20 participating Windermere offices, community members are invited to drop off the following items during regular business hours: crayons, #2 pencils, erasers, glue sticks, backpacks, colored pencils, washable markers, spiral notebooks, pencil sharpeners, scissors, composition books, dry erase markers, two-pocket folders, glue bottles, highlighters, pens, permanent markers, watercolor paints, rulers, lunch boxes and pencil boxes.
Monetary donations can also be made online at KGWschool.com/cash and will go directly to one of the local school districts.
All donated supplies and funds will be distributed to local schools in coordination with Schoolhouse Supplies, a Portland-based nonprofit that has served the metro area since 1999 by providing free school supplies to students in need. With help from nearly 900 annual volunteers and strong community partnerships, the organization has distributed more than $30 million in school supplies to date.
