WASCO CO. — Wasco County transitioned its official web domain to WascoCountyOR.gov on Nov. 28. This move is a crucial step to enhance security, credibility, and ease of access for all residents, businesses, and visitors seeking official county information.
The current website address, co.wasco.or.us, will be permanently redirected to the new .gov address starting on the transition date.
The transition to a .gov domain provides a clear benefit to the public: trust and verification. The .gov top-level domain is strictly reserved for official U.S. governmental organizations. This designation confirms that users are accessing a legitimate, verified source of county information and services, which is critical for cybersecurity and preventing online fraud.
“This domain change reinforces our commitment to transparency and security for the Wasco County community,” said Andrew Burke, Information Services Director. “When you see .gov at the end of our web address, you can be absolutely confident that you are on the official Wasco County website, receiving verified public services and information.”
What Residents Need to Know
While the change is designed to be seamless, the County encourages the public to take two simple steps:
Update Your Bookmarks: Starting Nov. 28, please update any saved browser bookmarks or shortcuts to the new official address: WascoCountyOR.gov.
Verify Communications: Note that all official county email addresses will also transition to the new format. For example: stephaniek@wascocountyor.gov. If you communicate with county staff, please update your contacts to reflect this change.
For a period following the transition, anyone visiting the old website address will be automatically redirected to WascoCountyOR.gov.
Wasco County remains dedicated to providing comprehensive and accessible public services. Residents with any questions regarding the domain transition are encouraged to contact the Public Information Officer.
