SKAMANIA CO. — Today, June 12, the Skamania County Sheriff's Office released an update on the two fires near Carson, Washington.
The 10-acre Grant Lake Fire has been approximately 50% "controlled." A fire is considered controlled when it's not only fully contained but also the fire has been burned out. Once a fire is controlled, there's little chance of the fire escaping the perimeter. However, areas may be monitored to prevent reignition.
The 35-acre Sand Hill/Carson Hot Springs Fire has slowed and is 25% contained. Firefighters have established a firebreak around the perimeter of the fire and the threat of spread has been reduced significantly.
The Department of Natural Resources, United State Forest Service and local fire crews are managing the fire response and Skamania County Sheriff's Office is working with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and Washington State Police (WSP).
As of 10 a.m. there has been no change in evacuation levels but officials hope to lower evacuation levels later today. Stay tuned forSkamania County Sheriff's Officeupdates.

SR14 is still experiencing closures near milepost 48 and 49: Westbound lane closed from to Milepost 49 to Wind River roundabout (approx. milepost 48). Officials are also warning residents that there may be an closure of the eastbound lane from milepost 49 to 53, but as of 11 a.m. no further closures have been issued.

June 11 at 7 p.m.: Crews that responded to two fires east of Stevenson and near Carson, Washington, have reportedly stopped forward progress on at least one of the two infernos.
According to the Watch Duty app, incident command has control of an estimated 90% of the Grant Lake Fire located near Bergen Road.
The Skamania County Sheriffs Office has prompted evacuations for the approximately 35-acre Sand Hill/Hot Springs Fire.
According to reporting from Liam Winstead from the Watch Duty app at 5:08 p.m.: "the southern end of the fire along the railroad tracks has been stopped. Resources are now working on the head of the fire."

The fires closed SR 14 from Carson community (Milepost 47) in the west to Dog Creek area on Hwy 14 in the east (Milepost 55). The Skamania County Fairgrounds are available as a temporary evacuation point. The Skamania County Fairgrounds are located at 710 SW Rock Creek Dr, Stevenson, WA 98648.
