A Sherman deputy first observed the vehicle at 9:15 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, heading westbound near milepost 109 at speeds of 136 mph.
Shortly after that, the BMW passed another deputy near milepost 101. It was still going 126 mph. The deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, “but it had other ideas, and decided [to] try and elude the deputies by accelerating and turning off all its lights,” read a Facebook post from Wasco County Sheriff’s Office.
A joint effort by OSP, The Dalles Police and Wasco County Sheriff’s Office caught up with the vehicle. After its tires were spiked, the vehicle stopped near milepost 79.
The driver was arrested on the charge of attempting to elude and reckless driving. One passenger was arrested on the charge of carrying concealed weapon(s).
