Hood River Valley’s boys soccer team played visiting Milwaukie to a 1-1 tie in the final Northwest Oregon Conference game for both teams Oct. 29.
The Eagles (8-3-4 overall, 5-1-2 NWOC) finished second in the final nine-team league standings and will await the announcement later this week of the 2024 16-team Class 5A playoff bracket to see who they will host in the first round.
Hood River’s Julian Lara scored on a penalty kick with 10 minutes remaining to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead against Milwaukie (7-3-4, 2-3-3). The lead lasted five minutes, as Milwaukie scored the equalizer following a defensive lapse on a long Mustang free kick.
Hood River is ranked seventh (as of Oct. 30) in the OSAA poll. Either McKay (ninth), Corvallis (10th) or Redmond (11th) is a likely first-round playoff opponents for the Eagles, who lost in last year’s 5A championship game, 1-0, to Summit of Bend. Salem’s McKay and Corvallis play Oct. 31.
