A select group of Hood River Valley track and field athletes took on quality competition at the annual Oregon Relays at Eugene’s Hayward Field last week, taking aim at some school records in the process.
The meet attracted athletes — high school, college, and pro — from throughout the country.
Senior Simone Tillman ran to a personal best, 200-meter time of 25.36 seconds on Friday. She also ran the open 400 and finished in a season-best 58.75. Tillman is No. 2 all-time in HRV history in both events (Jestena Mattson set the 200 mark of 24.51 in 2015, which is the same year Emily Viuhkola ran 57.32 in the 400.)
The Eagle boys distance medley relay team of Kai Wagner, Chaz Rockett, Jackson Bullock, and Logan King ran 10:49.91, which is just two seconds slower than the HRV school record (10:47.05). That was set at the 2023 Oregon Relays in 2023 by William Bunch, Kadin Mitchell, Bullock, and Elliot Hawley.
Bullock also competed in the open 800, running 1:57.91, just a half second shy of his personal best.
Francisco Solberg competed in the pole vault, clearing 12 feet, 11.5 inches. Solberg leads the Northwest Oregon Conference in the vault at 13 feet.
