Performances by senior Jackson Bullock and sophomore Jack Miller highlighted Hood River Valley’s mid-week track and field foray to Wilsonville on April 16.
The Northwest Conference meet included the host Wildcats and Centennial.Â
Bullock won two races and anchored HRV’s first place 4x400 meter relay. Bullock led a 1-2-3 Hood River sweep in the 1500 meters, towing along teammates Kai Wagner and Logan King. Bullock won in a season best 4:14.19, Wagner ran a personal best 4:17.36, and King added a season best of 4:20.05.
Bullock came back a few events later and won the 400 in a personal best 52.69. He teamed with Chaz Rockett, Wagner and Noah Spurlock in the long relay in 3:39.09 to cap the meet.
Miller threw a personal best 150 feet, 5 inches to win the javelin. The mark from the sophomore — a 17-foot PR — is the top boys throw thus far in the NWOC. Bullock leads the conference in the 800 (1:57.91, recorded at the April 19-20 Oregon Relays, see related story this issue). King later won the 800 in a season best 2:11.97 and teammate Sam Knoll was second in 2:13.22.
In the field, Omar Sedano reached 40 feet in the shot and threw a PR 111-11 in the discus. Levi Grimsley added a 39-11 effort in the shot and a PR in the javelin at 123 feet. Finn Mikkelsen threw a season best 116-3 in the discus.
The Eagle boys swept the vertical jumps: freshman Wyeth Droege won the high hump at 5 feet, 8 inches; and Francisco Solberg won the pole vault at 13 feet. Droege also raced to a PR in the 110 hurdles in 18.59 seconds.
The HRV girls were led by its 4x400 relay, which won in a season best 4:14.83. The team included Alex Bronson, Simone Tillman, Sutton LeFevre and Abby Kelly.
Kelly had a busy day, running a PR 28.87 in the 200, as did LeFevre (28.96).
Syl Perrin paced HRV girls distance crew. She won the 1500 in 5:14.48 and then doubled back to win the 800 in a personal best 2:36.05. Teammate Hazel Haspela ran the two-lap race in 2:44.41 and added a PR in the 1500 at 5:31.71. Katie Godkin raced to two PRs; she went 5:31.74 in the metric mile and 2:42.83 in the 800. Sadie Bauman won the girls 400 in a personal best 1:04.28.
Hood River had three surpass 14 feet in the long jump led by Sydney Barrs at 15-8. Sydney Krentz jumped a PR 14-6, and teammate Abby Kelly leapt 14-3.75. Sylvaine Farr was second in the pole vault at 9-6. Kelly won the high jump at 4-8.
