The Washington State Patrol Communications Center in Vancouver relays wildlife reports via radio to Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) officers in Clark, Cowlitz, Lewis, Skamania and Klickitat counties. Communications officers take calls ranging from dangerous wildlife such as bear or cougar to many species considered pests.
Typically non-emergency calls involving skunks, raccoon and other small nuisance wildlife should be placed to the nearest WDFW office where helpful information can be obtained on how to deal with these wildlife pests.
During normal business hours 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, call the Fish and Wildlife office at (360) 696-6211.
Incidents which involve major violations in progress such as spotlighting, exceeding limits, unlawful use of dogs, or hunting during closed seasons are considered priority. These should be reported to Fish and Wildlife, or the State Patrol, for immediate dispatch.
Incidents which involve an attack or imminent threat by dangerous animals like cougars and bears to persons, livestock or pets should be reported without delay. This can be done by calling the Fish and Wildlife office or the State Patrol by dialing 9-1-1 and asking for the State Patrol.
