In one of its final actions of 2011, the White Salmon City Council on Dec. 21 approved an ordinance reducing the city's 2011 operating budget by almost $10,000.
City Clerk/Treasurer Leana Johnson told Councilors Mark Peppel, Richard Marx, Allan Wolf and Bob Landgren that the major change in the bottom line was due to an increase in revenues. Still, she said, the estimated ending cash position for 2011 remained unchanged at $32,602.
"We're shoring up the revenues to ensure no department is over-extended at the end of the year," Johnson informed the council and Mayor David Poucher.
The latest 2011 budget update reallocated "excess funds" from the Finance Department's personnel category to the Parks, Pool and Building departments to account for increased costs in those departments.
In all, the amendment approved by the City Council, by a vote of 3-0 (Marx abstained), reworked the Current Expense bottom line, reducing it from $1,910,750 to $1,900,887, and the total budget figure from $10,327,758 to $10,317,895.
As of Dec. 15, the city had spent almost 89 percent of its Current Expense budget ($1.654 million) and taken in nearly 92 percent of anticipated Current Expense revenue ($1.744 million).
