The White Salmon Student Travel Club is planning a trip to Brazil during Spring Break 2002 and the public is invited to join.
The club, which has traveled to Greece, Rome and Europe over the last several years, will depart for Rio on March 28 for a nine-day stay.
The tours are educationally based with history and culture in mind.
"I realize there are currently national problems that put travel into question," said club director Ken Block. "We are traveling with EF Tours and they have a new cancellation policy. If our group or an individual deems travel unsafe, a voucher is given for future travel."
The club is open to all community members and high school students.
In order to offset costs, Columbia High School students are selling coupon books featuring many participating White Salmon and Hood River businesses. All money raised by the club is used by the students to defray expenses.
Community members are responsible for their costs, which this year will be approximately $2,000.
The price includes round-trip airfare, hotel, breakfast and dinner, a full-time bilingual tour guide, sightseeing and entrance fees.
"We are taking the advice of our President and trying to not fear, and return as much as possible to normal," Block added.
Persons interested in purchasing a coupon book or interested in joining the travel club can call Block, 493-3441, for more information.
