The Oregon State University "Strengthening Family Program" (SFP) workshops will be at Wy'east Middle School every Wednesday evening March 6 through April 24 (except March 27 for Spring Break).
Each evening will begin with dinner at 5:30 p.m. followed by two, separate activity based workshops -- one for parents and one for 10-to-13-year-old youth. The evening will conclude with special, fun activities for the parents and children together, ending at 8:30 p.m.
According to Dr. Terry Hadlock, Family and Community Development faculty with OSU Extension Service, who will be one of the co-presenters this series, "The pre-teen years are perhaps the most critical years in terms of parenting skills. Parents who establish a good, working relationship before the teen years generally experience less difficulty during the teen years."
Because OSU has chosen Hood River as a pilot site from which to launch the Strengthening Families Program throughout the state, Hadlock points out, "This is a tremendous opportunity for local parents to get a jump start on their children's teen years."
