Soroptimist International of Mt. Adams is now accepting applications for two of its award programs: the Women's Opportunity Award and the Making a Difference for Women Award.
The Women's Opportunity Award is an international identifying project of Soroptimist. The cash award of up to $1,000 is designed to give a woman head of household the opportunity to achieve her career goals -- an opportunity she has not previously had, whether because of economic or social barriers, or personal circumstances.
The recipient may use the award for any expenses related to her educational pursuits, including tuition and books, housing, childcare and transportation.
Eligible applicants must be women who live in the in the Mt. Adams club's service area, provide the primary financial support for their families, and are enrolled in or have been accepted to a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program.
Applicants must demonstrate financial need, and cannot have already earned an undergraduate degree.

The Making a Difference for Women Award is designed to honor women who are working to improve the lives of women and girls through their personal or volunteer lives or through their professions. The eligibility requirements for this program are specific in their target -- women and girls.
Candidates may live or work in the Mt. Adams club's service area. Three examples of women who may be eligible are:
1. A woman in the community who is improving the lives of women and girls through her professional, volunteer or personal life;
2. A woman who has contributed to the improvement of the lives of women and girls by identifying and focusing on their needs; or
3. A woman who is being honored for a lifetime of good work, although the majority of the work should have occurred within the past two years.

The Mt. Adams club's service area includes Stevenson, Carson, White Salmon, Bingen, Trout Lake, Glenwood, Lyle, Klickitat, and surrounding areas. Previous award winners of the Soroptimist Woman of Distinction Award, Soroptimists, immediate family members of Soroptimists, and employees of Soroptimist are not eligible for the Making a Difference for Women Award.
