Diane Burgin, Emma Jane LaVallie and Anita Wellenbrock travelled to Bellevue for the annual Public School Employees of Washington Convention recently. They were among about 600 people who attended the conference that ran from Aug.2 to 5. Emma was chosen as the Legislative Member of the Year at the convention! She was nominated for the prestigious award by Glenwood members; then the PSE Awards Committee researched and selected her from among those who were nominated around the state.
According to Mrs. Wellenbrock, the PSE Awards Committee makes very few awards annually including Legislative Member, Honorary Member and Lifetime Member. In the past, Anita Wellenbrock was selected as a Lifetime Member; and Cloy Sykes received the Honorary Member of the Year award as well. I think it is pretty cool that people from Glenwood have garnered awards in each of the special categories now.
Mrs. LaVallie is one of 13 members on the Legislative Council who represent the 27,000 PSE members. Emma has worked closely with the legislative members for three years in her capacity on the Legislative Council. She recently sat on the panel that interviewed Jay Inslee and Rob McKenna to determine which candidate for governor the PSE would endorse. Thank you for your hard work on behalf of Public School Employees from Washington; and congratulations on your much-deserved designation as Legislative Member of the Year, Emma!
Miss Sarah Beth Sinor married Robert James Remiesiewicz in a small wedding at the Captain Whidbey Inn in Coupeville on Aug. 4. Sarah Beth is the daughter of Howard and Debi Sinor of Glenwood and Robert's parents are Jim Townsend of Foxboro, Mass., and Janis Hughes of Port Richey, Fla. Sarah Beth graduated from Glenwood High School in 2005 and from Yakima Valley Community College in 2010. She is employed as a veterinary technician at Best Friends Veterinary Center. Robert is enlisted in the Navy; and is currently stationed at the naval base on Whidbey Island. The newlyweds are living in Oak Harbor. Congratulations and best wishes Mr. and Mrs. Remiesiewicz!
